Sale no mobarak, eid e shoma mobarak. However you say or spell it, it's (almost) Norooz, or the Persian New Year. "No" means new, and "rooz" means day. Quite fitting, especially for springtime. Though not technically for another week, last night was the new year party at the University, which I attend annually with the rest of the Rafiei clan.
Since Persians don't fuck around when it comes to looking good, I always look forward to Norooz because I can really go all out (within standards and reason), and so for this look I chose a deep purple cat eye to compliment the lavender dress (which I ditched at last minute). And, of course, I opted for gold glitter. Because sparkles.
I turned Grape into an eyeliner with the fixative and then applied French Lavender on the lid and blended. Both the Watt's Up and White Gold were used to highlight below the brow bone. The Madison Street Beauty pigments worked so well for this look. The color payoff was phenomenal. Glitterguard primer acted as a layer on top of the shadow and I used a small brush to dab the MAC glitter onto the lids for an extra pop. Also, it got all over my face. But whatever.
Unfortunately, the back and forth of my own getting-ready insanity caused me to forget a few crucial steps, like putting on eye primer and curling my lashes. And then my mixed eyeliner started to flake and fade away (I'm starting to rethink the binding strength of the fixative), so I had to retrace with an actual pencil (Milani FTW!). And then the false eyelashes I'd hoped to use didn't want to stick. It was a shit show, but ultimately came together quite nicely in the end.
Interestingly enough, I saw a ton of purple hues in the garb last night: lavender dress shirts, grape-colored floor length gowns, grayish purple ties. In fact, had I not changed outfits, my brother, father and I all would have been wearing some sort of purple clothing. Also, this year's color of the year is Radiant Orchid. Nice one, Pantone. Color conspiracy or coincidence? Either way, purple is lovely and there was a lot of it last night.
