Neutrals are always a good option. When indecisive or feeling otherwise "meh" for whatever reason, neutral makeup is enough to lift you up and brighten the face without being extra colorful.
I patted a light layer of Mulch (a warm shimmery brown) onto my lids and then painted over it with several layers of Goldenrod to soften and brighten the depth of the brown. You can hardly see the brown at all under whatever semblance of gold was captured in these photos, though. I assure you it's there.
