On the last Sunday in July, I had an opportunity to shoot with a photographer based out of Los Angeles who was visiting family in Minnesota. His sister, a friend of mine from college, orchestrated the meet up, which took place in the North Loop neighborhood in an industrial building owned by a friend of their family. I showed up that Sunday with my heavy makeup bag cutting into my shoulder and was greeted by Anthony, Melissa, and the two models. The family friend led us into the building and brought us upstairs in an industrial elevator that crawled slowly. It opened up into a sprawling, cluttered wood shop, which we cut through to get to the next room for the first location: a half finished room with fluorescent lighting, half painted red walls, and what looked like a partially installed kitchen sink/counter area. The whole setup was incredibly quirky. I work in the North Loop, just a few blocks from the location, and getting to really see the skeletal makeup of this building was fascinating.
I was really excited to get to work with a professional photographer. Though I wouldn't be on camera, I still wanted to play with color and curate a look so I'd be pulled together. Normally, I don't wear makeup on Sundays. I ended up playing to the hues in my dress by doing a metallic candy apple green eye with some new MAC pigments to match the flowers on my dress, and then swiping on a matte red lip. Up went the hair so it wouldn't get in my face for the duration of the makeup job. I was super stoked and a bit nervous, but it ended up working out swimmingly. I'm amped to get the photos soon for my portfolio, which I recently added to! I have more work coming, but in the mean time please check out what I did for a local photographer and an eco fashion show.
