Sundays are either makeup-free or days for experimenting with unconventional looks. In the morning, I did makeup for a photo shoot and then went home to play with color and false lashes. The blue lips were a subtle nod to a hoped-for Argentine victory in the World Cup's final match. Two blues were used for the color: the lovely Blue Velvet from the NYX Macaron line, and a long-forgotten sample of a lipstick from indie company Impulse Cosmetics.
Unconventional lip colors require a little bit more maintenance. If the lips aren't properly moisturized and smooth, it looks especially weird when the blue or green sits patchily on the mouth. Maybe we're just more conditioned to seeing nude/red/pink/orange/purple lipsticks as normal. Unconventional colors definitely need a smooth canvas and a dedicated wearer to maintain the color's integrity throughout the day. I love lip colors that hit the blue/green/black spectrum, as they can be accent pieces to the whole look and can stand out as statement pieces if done well.
